Some people are struggling with the stress of quarantining at home during a pandemic, and as such, many are turning to music to cheer themselves up. In fact, studies have shown that music releases dopamine into the brain, increasing one’s temporary happiness. Well, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis has used the musical method to get just a little bit more ‘happy.’

Like every other hospital in the country, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital is struggling with the number of COVID-19 patients and the need for beds, rooms, and supplies. But, the doctors and nurses are doing something special to make their lives just a little bit easier. Every time the hospital discharges a COVID-19 patient after recovering from the virus’ harsh symptoms, the hospital plays the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams through the entire building’s intercom system.

So, next time the world is bringing you down, jam out to some great music to make you feel better just like the nurses and doctors at a hospital in St. Louis.
